ABSTRACT=Although there are guidelines and ideas on how to improve public health education, translating innovative approaches into actual training programs remains challenging. In this article, we provide an overview of some initiatives that tried to put this into action in different parts of the world. We then focus on the experience of the Emerging Health Care Leader program, a novel training program developed in Switzerland and which aimed at developing non-academic skills and at creating a connected public health community for the future. Reflecting on its structures, outcomes and future directions, we explore and share lessons learned from this experience, in order to foster an open debate on how novel training program in public health can be organised.
